we have a 7 week old pit bull puppy(female) both of the parents are known to us and are sweet with those they know. our pup does alot of growling and nipping. she love shoes ect.(we use bitter apple) when we get her to focus she starts giving kisses. now she is only 8 lbs, but when she gets bigger we do not want problems. by the way she growls when she pulls at our clothes(like tug of war) she is too young for puppy training we were told to wait till 5 mos old

Of course he cannot legally kill your dog!! I would call the police and report his threats. That way if heaven forbid anything ever does happen you will have it on file already. I believe that as long as the land lord doesn’t care there is nothing he can do legally. When you make a report you might want to ask what you should do on your end just to cover your bases. Good luck!

This isn’t aggression its normal puppy behavior. Redirect her attention to a toy.

As for your shoes, keep them up instead of bitter apple, she may learn to like it.

Puppy classes can start as early as 10 weeks old. Once the pup has had two vaccinations. I’d DEFINATELY enroll in a puppy class. By 5 months old your dog has already developed bad habits. Bad habits are harder to break than prevent.

Training can never start to early.

Though it seems to yield little benefit for the domesticated dog, canine aggression once served very necessary purposes: hunting down food and protecting territory and other pack members. For the modern dog, aggression toward people still surfaces as a result of a real or perceived threat–and often worsens because our two species don’t naturally speak the same language.

She’s being a puppy. She should not have gone home before 8 weeks of age, and some states even have laws against them going home before 8 weeks of age. She still had a lot to learn from her litter mates.

You definitely don’t need to wait until 5 months old. There are age restrictions so that no puppies get sick from others. You could also have a private trainer come to your house so that you can get a jump start on everything. Obviously you’ll want group classes in the future so that your dog will be social too, but a private trainer will help you start your training. Be wary of any groups or trainers who are afraid of your dog’s breed, as they won’t be as effective at training you and your dog. I went to a trainer once for 4-H, and she didn’t like GSD. She was afraid of mine all the time, even though mine were normally placed between dogs that would fight, because mine wouldn’t. She also placed me lower in showing because they were GSD.

Good luck, you’re already being a great owner!

You start your training with this puppy immediately particulary with the aggression. The reason this puppy bites is be cause it was taken from mum while it was to young and the mother has had no time to teach it not to bite. I us a method of grabbing the bottom jaw when they nip and squeeze until the pup gives a yelp. It should only have to be done about 6 times for it to learn not to bite. If tugging at your clothes growl don’t let it do it. A puppy learns not to do these things by its mother at the age of 6 to 8 weeks these are the most important weeks of a pups life learning social skills. These dogs can be extremely dangerous and if you are not experienced dealing with dogs you should not have one. They are also required to be desexed and muzzled in public.

Ding Ding Ding. She is a PIT BULL …If you don’t start your own obedience training now!!!! it will get worse as she gets older. Redirect her to other good things and show her who is boss now. you have to be the alpha male/female or she is get the idea that it’s ok to rip your clothes to streds. Tug of war, yes she will growl. It’s a game. Teaches her how to protect what is hers. But don’t let her eat your shoes or clothes. Don’t wait for community puppy training. She is your responsibility so you need to start her on the basics, Sit, Stay, Down, Good Luck.
