How can i stop my dog from barking when my dad walks in the house or sometimes just when he walks past him?
My dad is the type of person that he “will not” tolerate a dog barking at him in his own home or when he comes into his own home. My dog is fairly small and cant be a threat, but its just the principal of it. Sometimes he will bark and sometimes he will growl at him. We have all rough housed and played with him, but my dad is the only one he barks at and growls at. Any suggestion on how to get him to stop. My dad is not a very big animal person, i mean he does play with him, but he is not gonna take the “extra” time with him. What do i need to do to break my dog of this habit and quick?

Put him in a room before your dad comes in. keep him in there for 20 minutes. until he is calm.
tell the dog no or spray it with a water when he does this so he learns not to. If you just pick the dog up or put it some where that wont fix the problem. dogs don’t understand time out and things like that so handle the problem while its happening. be patient and consistant.
Your dog doesn’t respect your dad or you. I would assume that your dog is most likely a protective type that feels the need to protect his territory or his owners. You need to teach your dog that you are his leader and so is any other human that he comes across.
Since your dad doesn’t really want to go the extra bit to fix the problem, it’s up to you. I suggest that you leave a leash or choke chain of the dog at all times. When your dad comes home or walks past the dog, be ready to correct your dog. You have to be really watching. You have to correct your dog before he goes and actually barks or growls. If you correct him afterword, it will be too late. Just give the leash or chain a sharp jerk and make a noise or command such as “no” or a shh sound or snap your fingers. If you don’t want to use the leash or chain then use your hand. When the dog is about to do something you don’t want him to do, push him with your fingertips and make your noise or command. The fingertips will feel like teeth and it will snap him out of his aggressive mood. Neither of these methods will hurt your dog, they will only help snap him out of his bad behavior and show that you mean business. Eventually, your dog will learn that the noise or command means he is doing something bad and that will be all you’ll have to do and you won’t need the leash or use your hand any more.
If your dad is willing to try something, I suggest you have him walk your dog. A walk is a great way to earn a dog’s respect and affection. When I say walk, I mean that the dog stays right at his side and doesn’t run behind, in front, or away from him. He can’t stop to sniff things and what not. Your dad is going to walk the dog not the other way around. Your dog will learn quickly who is in charge.
I hope I helped and good luck with your dog.
Hey~ I stole this idea from some show on a pet channel, but what the trainer did was spray canned air on the dogs when they were barking at people coming into the door. She would say “quiet” and spray them quickly with the air. ((Not chase them or anything lol, just a quicky spray).
