How can we stop the tenant from calling us regarding dog barking?

does he call you? or your landlord /.if he calls you tell him he if he does not stop you will sue him for harrasment..tell him he lives in a pet friendly apartment building if he does not like it he can move!

Explain nicely that the apartment is dog-friendly and that you are going to try to remedy the situation with training, but it will take time. Remember, for every 1 person that complains, there are 3-4 others that want to. Your dog should not be constantly barking whether you live in an apartment or a house. This is a behavioral problem that needs to be solved with firm training by a professional.

If one person is complaining, he may just be the only one willing to speak up. A constantly barking dog is extremely annoying to neighbors. I used to live next door to one, that just barked it’s head off all day nonstop, and I had a night job that required me to sleep during the day.

Does your dog bark “a lot”?
Check with other neighbors around you, ask them to tell you honestly….you have rights since it’s “dog friendly” but that doesn’t mean your dog can bark incessantly (I”m not saying that he does).
AND I’d also check with your local ordinances–if this guy gets a hair up his ace, he could call the cops and you’ll find yourself fined, or even dogless.

When I leave for work, I put the TV on, not loud for my dog. And when I come home, I dont make a big deal out of “oh come here my pupster”, I let him jump around, I ignore him, and then after about 10 min, then I pet him. That way there wont be “separation anxiety”, ie, constant barking and whining.

How much is your dog barking? Would you be annoyed if you were in the other persons shoes?

That said, sounds like the other person isn’t happy unless they have something to complain about. Before ignoring the person, first try sympathising with them – apologise and tell them you will do everything you can to try to resolve the problem (as long as you DO do things to limit your dog’s barking). It’s not pleasant living in an environment where you don’t get along with your neighbours. Also, you could give them earplugs for Christmas……
However, if that doesn’t work, ignore them.

Change your number, or press charges for phone harrassment. Be sure you start logging the calls if you DO press charges. Sometimes, just the threat that you will press charges is enough to stop ther harrassment.

there are state laws that cover tenants with pets you might want to print and give that tenant or you can have your landlord give them to him.

What does your lease say. Quote it. It is usually better if you can site a source and sound authoritative.

why have a dog in the first place. its an added burden.

Next time he calls call the police and report him harassing you and the situation. They will call him and it will already be in place that now he is just trying to retaliate if he complains about you and the dog. Remember just because your landlord has a pet friendly apartment doesn’t mean you are above the nuisance or public disturbance laws in your area.

Those pesky neighbors! How dare they complain about your barking dog. The next thing you know, they will be complaining that you play the stereo and TV too loud or that you took their parking spot.

Is the complainer keeping you awake with the constant complaining? Could your dog be barking his head off in your absence and you not realize how bad the situation is? Maybe the pesky complainer works an odd shift and needs to sleep while your dog is barking. Possibly there is a sleeping baby who is bothered by the barking.

I would talk to this constant complainer and asked just how bad the barking situation is. As a tennant, you have the right to a peaceful nights rest just like every other tennant, including the complainer.

If your dog has separation anxiety and is rasing a ruckus when you leave, get some behavioral training for him or move.

First I would check with the other neighbors to see if the dogs are bothering them. If they are being bothered there are many things you can do to discourage your dogs from barking. I had to buy “no bark” collars for mine. They really did the trick and really do not injure the animal. It stopped the barking and made the neighbors very happy.

I am a dog lover–have two dogs myself–but I must say that I have two neighbors that should not own dogs at all= their dogs bark continually and are never told to stop by the owners–to me this is being very cruel to the animals and these people do not deserve to own a dog==if your dog is a continual barker then you should do something about it–if your dog only barks infrequently then the neighbor should be told that it is normal for a dog to bark once in awhile–Just be honest and if it is frequently and you just ignore it then your neighbor is correct—even if your apt is dog friendly dog shouldn’t be barking all the time
