Andre T asked:

Well I just got a complaint today about my dogs barking and she threatened to call the cops. I’m sure my dogs wasn’t even barking excessively, but it’s just they start barking when we put them in the kennel and I was looking around but I can’t find any laws about dog nuisance. So can anyone help me out? Thanks guys!

Also, I live in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

You might not notice your dogs barking but people around you will. How long do your dogs bark and is it every day. How long do you keep them in the kennels keep a check to see how long they bark for.

If they are barking for a long time you will be fined and you could also have a court order to stop your dogs barking.

Talk to your neighbour and try and sort things before the authorites get involved.

Usually ordinances about barking dogs are county and city based.

And generally, if your dog is barking incessantly between the hours of 8PM to 7 AM, your dog can be considered a nuisiance and you can be fined if there are ordinances already in place. Some ordinanances state any incessant barking at any time is in violation.

In any case, your library may have copies of the city/county ordinances in your area.

The Code of Ordinances for Simpsonville states that it is a public nuissance by “Allowing or permitting an animal to bark, whine, cry or howl in an excessive, continuous, untimely or unreasonable fashion, or to make other noise in such a manner so as to result in a serious annoyance or interference with the reasonable use and enjoyment of neighboring premises in a platted residential subdivision or residentially zoned are or within 200 feet of a platted subdivision or residentially zoned area.”

When the Animal Control Officer receives two complaints from two separate neighbors in close proximity, the officer will notify the person of the complaint and give them the chance to fix the problem. If they find the complaint justified and the problem continues, fines can be ordered.

There were a few products that I tried but none seemed to work until I bought The Barking Dog CD. It really works and it is so easy to use. To say that I was impressed is an understatement.

You can check it out for yourself at if you want to try it.
