What can you do when your Leash Training a Puppy Goes Wrong?

Leash Training a puppy when it is going well can be great fun but sometimes your Lab Puppy will take great exception to the leash that has been attached to his collar and will start jumping around and pulling on the leash.

DO NOT turn this into a battle, if you do your puppy will become more hype up and will be more determined to resist the lead.

So where do you go from here lets go through some simple steps.

• Firstly just drop the leash and call your puppy to you and reward him with a treat.
• Play with a toy, by distracting him you will surprised how quickly he will forget about the lead.
• Try taking the end of the leash again and call your puppy and reward him
• Now try a couple of steps with your new lab puppy, encourage him to walk with you. Hopefully he will be focused on you and not the lead.
• End this leash training session as soon as you have achieved a small measure of success. If you push your new puppy to hard and you try to get him to do more you will feel very frustrated,  allows finish on a positive note.
• Keep practising in short bursts, use lots of verbal encouragement and praise, and always reward your puppy when he co-operates.

Be patient, some puppies just take longer to learn this skill, just take your time and it will all fall into place. If all puppies did what they where told the first time there would be an awful lot of dog trainers out of work.
