Lab puppy training would like to welcome  Bailey

The first 2 pictures of Bailey are when we brought her home at 6 weeks old and the third one is from last week at 4 months old.

Bailey’s father, a Black Labrador, and mother, a Chocolate Labrador, are from Bell Buckle, TN. Her father is Nationally Ranked in Field Competition Time Trials.

One of her brothers from the same litter was purchased by Country Music Star, Lee Ann Womack.

Bailey has been house trained since she was about 12 weeks old and has not had a problem in different settings. This is a direct result of Kennel Training from Day 1.

Bailey is the first puppy my wife and I have Kennel Trained and we will not do it any other way in the future. At four months old she absolutely loves her crate or “den”. She sleeps in it at night and stays in it during the day while we are at work.

We do have a fenced in back yard, but are still a little hesitant to leave her in the back yard by herself while we are gone for 10 hours a day.

It may seem like she is kept in her kennel too long, but we make sure we let her out in at least four hour increments. For example, we let her out for a break in the middle of the night and our neighbor lets her out in the middle of the day while we are gone.

I know you may be wondering why I am explaining this in depth, but if I could give some advice for new puppy owners using Kennel training it would be to make sure your puppy does not stay in the Kennel too long at one time. Leaving them in their kennel too long can cause serious UTI and Bacterial Infections.

My rule of thumb is a puppy can hold its bathroom an hour for every month old they are.

Bailey is currently in the puppy biting stage, which our hands and feet can attest to. If you do not show her constant attention she will make sure she gets it by biting you. The only way we can decrease the biting right now is to give her the muzzle followed with “No Bite” and then quickly give her a chew toy. If you have any better ideas to break her of biting it would help.
