How can I stop my 6 month old puppy from biting when she plays?
Ashley O asked:
My 6 month old puppy bites/chews on us when we play. She doesn’t also hurt or mean to hurt but those puppy teeth do hurt. She is a chihuahua-dashound mix so she is very small with tiny teeth.

Just tell her no when she does. Very stern
If she doesn’t get the hint, pull her collar back and say it at the same time
Tell her to give kisses
That was my dogs problem too.
Occasionally we would hold his snout shut (not to hurt him, but to **** him off) when he was being really aggressive.
Now he is really good.
whenever she bites you while playing make a high pitched puppy squeal noise and pull your hand away. this lets the dog know that what they are doing is hurting you (even if it isnt) ad eventually they will learn not to bite either as much or as hard.
Perhaps her teeth are still growing in? Maybe get her some chew toy or object that she can gnaw on when you play with her.
Also, dogs are very territorial; you could growl at it to establish that “you’re bigger than it is.” You wouldn’t want such a cute dog to be afraid of you though ;D
Your in luck i have 3 chihuahuas, i watch “IT’S ME OR THE DOG” ALOT AND I ALSO WATCH “DOG WISPER.so you’ve come to the right place.
when a dog bites (puppy bites) you want to say eh! very sharply. don’t say no because after awhile the dog will think that’s his name.
don’t yell eh! just say it very firmly, and don’t smile at the dog while you say it or else the dog will think you joking.
Do it with a firm look on your face.
Hope i helped good luck!
A firm NO will work as well as anything. You have a baby on your hands that needs to learn the way of the world. Just like teaching a child the difference between “indoor & outdoor” voices, you must teach your baby what behavior you expect. Try using a deep growling voice. It establishes dominance. A growling NO will get her attention. Good luck! I hope I helped.
Iv got a St.Bernard pup 8 weeks who bites me too. I’ve tried tons of things to make him stop, but it all just makes him more excited, then he bites and growls. I have also tried just ignoring him when he bites so playtime ends, it works at first, but then hes right back to biting, and i dont even play rough with him. Maybe tapping her on her nose, making a high-pitched OW sound, closing her muzzle and giving it a shake while saying no, or ignoring her might work for you? lol isnt working for me tho
Hold it by the scruff of the neck. That is how a mother dog punishes a pup.
I agree with most answers but would add that when you command a firm NO or EH or whatever you use that you immediately stop playing and walk away for 10-15 minutes so that she relates the biting to no more play time and once she realizes that she will stop because they luv to play!
hi,
Mouthing and biting are natural, normal behaviors; all puppies do it. During teething (generally starting around four months), the urge to mouth is extra powerful because it feels good on your pups’ tender gums. Lacking opposable thumbs, puppies also use their mouths to catch, carry, and play, making it all the more crucial that they learn how to control themselves in the presence of human skin.
here’s a treatment:
hope this helps.
Give her something else to chew, like rubber toys. When she bites you say no-no loudly and sharply so she will catch it for sure and will stop what she was doing. And don’t worry, she’ll soon change her puppy teeth.
Everytime he bites you pretend like it hurts really bad and make them feel bad. Make sure you are always show your dog that you are dominant over him also..
