3 Tips to Get Your Puppy to Stop Biting
One fact we must live with, is puppies are biters. They bite their brothers and sisters when they are old enough to play, and they bite at their mothers for food. While it is normal for a puppy to bite while playing with other puppies, they don’t understand that your skin is more sensitive then that of their brothers and sisters.
It is completely natural for any puppy to be a biter, but that doesn’t mean they have to stay that way. With the proper puppy training your puppy will understand biting is not always acceptable behavior.
Here are 3 tips you can use to help control puppy biting;
1. Biting and nipping are signs of excitement in your puppy. Your job is to teach them that even though they are excited, they have to find a way of showing it other than biting.
2. If you are playing with your puppy and his teeth touches your skin make a loud sound to show pain. “OUCH!” “NO!” “STOP!” all work very well, just make sure to say it every time in the same tone and word phrase. When the puppy bites, use your loud sound and stop playing with them.
3. After you notice that your puppy has calmed down, and looks visibly sorrowful, you can being to show your puppy attention again.
In order to train your puppy not to bite it’s important to follow these steps. Whether you puppy is biting, gnawing or just touching his teeth to your skin you must train them to stop. No one wants their puppy to be a biter and the sooner you start the sooner you won’t have anything to worry about.
