lab puppy training secrets
asked:

Hi all!
My name is Sam and I just adopted an 8 week old Lab/Terrier/who knows what else puppy from an animal shelter.

The animal shelter gave me lots of instructions, but I have a few questions that I keep googling or asking people about, and I hear 10 different answers! I was wondering if you guys could help me, because I’m pretty overwhelmed.

1) Franny is 8 weeks old and is very skinny (they said she got there malnourished). She is 6 pounds and will probably get to be about 40 pounds.
How much should I feed her??! The shelter said to feed 1 cup of dry food and 1 cup of wet food over the course of a day (about 4 times), but a lot of people are telling me to: a) follow the dog food bag, or b) that 1 can of wet food is a lot and to increase the dry and give her much much less wet. I don’t know what to do! I just want to give her the right amount and I don’t want her to be hungry since she is just a baby and seems so hungry! Any thoughts?

2) She can’t go for real walks because she has a little upper respiratory infection and hasn’t had all her shots. We are house training her. Is it okay to take her (hold her) around the neighborhood, and maybe put her on pavement every once in a while to get used to outside, as long as she doesn’t have contact with other dogs or animals?

3) She is really sweet, but for the first time today she snarled at me when I put my hand near her dog bone. This should be corrected right? I’m assuming I say no and take away the bone each time she does it, but I want to make sure.

That’s it. I know this was a mouthful…if anyone could help me out with any of these questions I would REALLY appreciate it!

Thanks a ton everybody!

I just got a chocolate lab on tuesday. I wanted to train her to duck hunt but how would I get a license for a gun or take her to get her used to a gun. Where would i start? I live a few miles west of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I can train her myself because we taught our terrier how to keep the mole population down. I just need help on learning where there is a field that i can take her too that is legal to shoot in.

Also she is a shy puppy what is the best way to make sure that she is not gun shy?

Thank you for any help.

Long story short, We found a stray puppy. I found out he’s a german shepherd mix thats about 11 weeks old. He has hookworm and coccidiosis. I got meds for him and he’s being treated. I have a problem though…I’m having trouble potty training him. He’s gone potty outside a couple of times but sometimes he won’t go outside and then he’ll come back in and *** on the carpet. How do i get him to go outside? This is kind of overwhelming. There’s alot going on in my life. I have a lab/dalmation mix and i potty trained him but i think it was a bit easier. Please help! give me some advice or something…thanks in advance?
